Remember JAB mostly from Tidworth where he had (at the time) the car of my dreams - a Datsun 120Y - and to make me even more envious he had his initials JAB on the gear knob. Great guy and a sad loss

I can remember the name, I knew him. But, like the passage of time, faces fade. RIP Johnno.

Jab & and I were on the same crew commanders course together, back in the early days (1978/9) of this course when it was a 3 month piss up. He got on well with every one on that course including Tony Ricard (2RTR) who was very upset when years later he was asking me about JAB and I had to pass on the sad news of his death. JAB was also the CO's driver in Omagh and got caught up in the bomb and riot at Carrickmore in in 1974.

Smudge - didn't somebody in our flat have a silver table ornament with JAB's initials on it? Might have been Chris - or maybe Fred Dove, eitherway there was a story attached?

Jab passed out with me - Mad dog Madden - Graham Smethurst and Paul Fisher (who hung himself in Leeds).

His wife Anne was walking past the Sqad all lined up to march on with the shortest of minis on!! One big gob said he would like to do rude things to her so Jab kindly informed him that it was his wife and he filled him in after the parade........

Remember John in lots of ways - Kind enough at Carrickmore to wind his window down so the brick hit him in the face and didnt damage the COs car window - where was Herr Young when this was happenning???'

Remember Sparky evans the Canute who started that riot as well

Jab liked a game of cards with the boys as well

Tragic to end his life that way and if my grey matter serves me right we had a fancy dress(TOGA) party for him in Herford and a Monkey got run over outside Reginas tryi g to stop us having fun??

Good days

A man of unparallelled brilliance, Paul. I was so itching with envy about not being able to serve in his troop (and see all the mishaps firsthand!)

But that would have meant being in B squadron, which at the time was below anyone's dignity

J P was Sparky not in A Sqn??

Man got into more xxxt than Alan Ellis another disaster area in his youth - remember the QMs Ellis file very well - we still laugh about it!

Psycho Roberts - Terrorists captured - Schoolteachers threatened - flooded campsites - upturned canoes on the swollen Rhine - all in a weekends work and I was supposed to be keeping an eye on him!!

Memories again!!

Paul,
Sparky was 'A' Sqn. 3Tp. supposed leader for a while after the Carrickmore fiasco I think he was shunted off to another job somewhere,
he was truly dangerous it would have only have been a matter of time before he had some kind of accident.
Dinger ;-)

Duinger - as I remember rightly he was going back to Canada and it was his last patrol and wanted to see some action - boy he got it that day - even got me out to help!!!

Must carry thes conversations elsewhere or uncle Mike will shout at us :D :D :D :D

As with Tiny remember JAB doing his Carrickmore 3 point turn during that minor skirmish. A very pleasant guy with a rotten perception of how fast a staff car can turn when in the middle of a rioting crowd. RIP.

Just browsing and found this about John, I was working in a wine store a couple of years ago and Johns daughter came in she has grown into a lovely young woman and is now a nurse at a hospital near us. Apparently all the family are well and her mum re-married just thought you might like to know.
