I would just like to say a few words about the newly formed Scarborough Branch and how it was formed and the aims of the Branch. The “branch” was actually born in September 1993 when we had over 350 ex First Tankie’s attend a reunion in the TA Centre in Scarborough, this was done totally by word of mouth and no advertising so as you can see, the lads were keen to get together and meet up again. We have met every year since and have gone from strength to strength with over 500 ex 1RTR (and some who served with us from other Arms and Corps – all having been proud to serve with us at one time or another) registered and on the data base. These members are living all over the UK and throughout the world so we are not really a “local branch” so to speak. This was in line so as not to take memberships away from other branches and to give the members a sense of belonging to the Regiment they served so well over the years. Most of the members are members of the Association but not a local branch. They were encouraged to join local branches for the benefits of being in a branch but voted to go the way we are going. The aim of this particular branch is to have an open door membership, not to have a regular meeting place, but meet in different areas once every three months with the AGM held in Scarborough every September.

Morley Rugby Club - January 2007
Morley is about to welcome back ex members of the Royal Tank Regiment after an absence of many years.
Morley Rugby Club - formerly the home of Leeds Branch of The Royal Tank Regiment Association, ( the Association represents all serving and ex members of the Royal Tank Regiment) will once again proudly be hosting the exclusively affiliated branch of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment.
Morley Rugby club and the 1st Royal Tank Regiment have a long history, with visits to the Regiment, Rugby matches against each other and visits by the Regimental Band forming close ties over the years, this unfortunately came to an end with the demise of the Leeds Branch due to members passing to the green fields.
The new Branch is exclusively affiliated to the First Royal Tank Regiment and has recently been formed as the Scarborough (1RTR) Branch but which covers the North of England.
It is hoped that one of the four annual meetings will be held at the rugby club for years to come. The Branch name comes about from the plus of three hundred ex 1RTR soldiers meeting in Scarborough for the last thirteen years but only now getting official recognition as a Branch of the association.
Any ex Members of the Leeds Branch are welcome to attend the function and will be offered membership of the Scarborough Branch, Any ex members of 1RTR are cordially invited to attend the function and will be most welcome to join the new branch.
This magnificent day will take place at the Morley rugby club on Saturday 13th January 2007.
All members are invited along to watch the war of the roses game with Preston Grasshoppers kicking of at 1430hrs.
This will be followed by a Branch meeting at 1900hrs (this will be restricted to members only) then the evening activities will begin with a disco, a sixth form school band, raffle and buffet plus hopefully another up and coming local band. A good night is expected and a good turn out as well.
Members of the Morley Rugby club will be invited to attend. There will be a small cover charge on the door on the night. If you would like to come along and enjoy the day/evening then please inform the following in advance.
